There wasn't much the cops could do about Simon's attempted theft. At most,

they could detain him for a few days; at worst, he'd get off with a verbal warning. After all, he hadn't stolen

anything.

Janice had always known this.

She never expected Simon to face real consequences; she just wanted to establish that he had tried to steal her

crochet piece and let the news spread. Simon valued his reputation more than anything.
