After Edgar left, Jake stood motionless, replaying every word the man had said. As much as he hated to admit it, Edgar was right. It was the plain, unfiltered truth.
Vampires were once a race that thrived through conquest—expanding wealth, territory, and power by subduing others. But ever since the universal treaty was signed, everything changed. Unlike demons, humans, dragonkins, and balors—who had adapted and found innovative ways to generate wealth and influence—the vampires lagged behind, relying too heavily on their old ways. Strategic thinking and long-term affluence just weren't in their nature.
'I need to find Zunda. This is beyondalone. I just want to make things easier for my offspring…' Jake's thoughts were interrupted by a young, blond-haired human man wearing a factory-style jumpsuit.
"I-I'm sorry for touching you, sir—your majesty!" the man stammered, backing away quickly as Jake turned to face him. Jake's crimson eyes locked onto him, sending a chill down the assistant's spine.
'Shit. What the hell was that? This man is terrifying… I can't even move my legs. I'm not paid enough to be dealing with monsters like him,' the man thought, sweat forming fast across his forehead.
"Haha, no need for the royal treatment. You can just callJake," Jake said, flashing a warm smile and extending a hand.
The man hesitated, then nervously shook it with trembling fingers.
"I… I wouldn't dare call you that," he said. "I'm Liam. Mr. Edgar's personal assistant. I'll be supervising the installation project here." He bowed politely, then quickly brought out a compact, eighteen-inch box and flipped it open.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtInside, dozens of small metallic spheres emitted a soft, pulsing blue glow.
"My boss instructedto hand these over to you. These are mini warpers—still prototypes, by the way. He hasn't officially released them yet," Liam explained, his tone growing more confident now that he was in his tech comfort zone.
"You need to plant each of these at different coordinates to use them properly. The great thing is, they don't require repeated code input. They're interconnected and have their own unique signatures. You can even warp between different public and private portals if you input a destination code. Pretty cutting-edge tech, huh?" he added, beaming with pride.
Jake raised an eyebrow, impressed. "So… I can use any of these to teleport to another location, as long as I have the right code?"
"Exactly! And more features are in the works, but even now, it's insanely efficient. Anyway, now that you know the basics, the rest is up to you. I'll be around if anything comes up." With that, Liam turned and walked away, his steps hurried.
'This guy's weird. I can sense fear from him, yet he seems strong… probably God-slayer level. Interesting…' Jake thought as he placed the box into his inventory.
After checking on the workers one last time, he called the two assistants he'd hired to oversee things in his absence. With that sorted, he headed home.
Once back at the residence, he slipped into one of the empty rooms. Grinning, he approached the closet and pulled out one of the warper balls. Just as Liam had instructed, he pressed down on it firmly.
Instantly, the orb shot out of his hand, zipping through the air so fast that Jake could barely track it with his eyes.
Before his eyes, the metallic sphere began to shift—mechanical parts protruding and snapping into place with quick, precise movements. Within seconds, it transformed into a large, glowing doorway. A soft, bluish translucent light shimmered across its surface, pulsing like a heartbeat.
Jake took a step forward, trying to walk through it—but a strange force pushed him back.
"Fantasizing," Jake muttered, narrowing his eyes as he examined the doorway. It wasn't like the conventional mini teleporters, which often sent people to vaguely marked coordinates. This was on a whole different level. Warpers, unlike teleporters, warped objects or people with pin-point accuracy—tearing through space and spitting them out at exact coordinates within milliseconds.
"They said more features are coming... I hope one day it can even warpto places without needing a paired warper or teleport link," Jake mused aloud.
In that moment, the difference clicked in his head…Teleporters traverse space, but warpers cut through it. It wasn't just travel. It was space manipulation. A warper felt like stepping through a seamless doorway, while teleporters still carried that disjointed, disorienting shift.
He sighed, his mind already trying to piece together Edgar's long-term vision for the tech.
With a final glance at the warper, Jake left the room and headed toward the living area.
The moment he entered the living room, Zagrath and Jill ambushed him, each taking one arm and dragging him forward.
"Where have you been?" Jill scolded. "Zamira's been acting strange since you left. Her mood swings are above the ceiling."
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"What? What do you mean mood swings?" Jake asked, confused, trying to resist, but they were already pushing him toward the dining room.
Neither of them answered.
They sat him down in a chair and tucked a napkin around his neck like he was about to be force-fed. Across the table sat Zamira, wearing a gentle smile. Jake's eyes darted around the room—it had been transformed. The decorations, the lighting, even the air—it all felt like a celebration.
Jill shot him a wink, pulling Zagrath along with her. "We're leaving you two alone. We'll eat somewhere else." Zagrath looked reluctant, but Jill had already dragged her off.
"They chose to give us sprivacy," Zamira said softly, as if trying to clear the air. "I didn't force them."
"I know... I'm just surprised. This whole setup—these decorations, the food... it's extravagant," Jake said, his gaze wandering over the elaborate spread.
'She made all this herself,' Jake thought, his eyes lingering on a juicy, half-cooked steak juiced up in blood, topped with vibrant vegetables. Beside it sat saucy ribs, thick bread, and an aromatic dipping sauce.
"This is the happiest day of my life," Zamira began, her voice low but sincere. "For the first time, I feel like I've achieved something real. I've done so many things—won battles, cleared beast nests—but nothing ever filled that empty space in me. Until you. You're the missing piece I didn't know I needed."
She placed her hands on the table, reaching toward him.
Jake took her hands gently. "I'm glad I made an impact in your life... King Mother," he said with a wink.
Those two words lit something in Zamira. A wave of desire hit her like lightning as if Jake's voice has been laced with enchantment. With no hesitation, she slid around the table and into his lap, her lips pressing hungrily against his.
