Chapter 232
"Mia, are you okay?"
Zayn arrived in a hurry, bringing people with him. He anxiously checked Mia from head to toe, only relaxing once
he confirmed she wasn't hurt.
"They went too far. Don't worry; | won't let them off the hook," Zayn said,
clenching his jaw in anger.
Angela had no interest in listening to the two of them pour their hearts out and quickly walked away.
As she stepped outside the banquet hall, she ran into Dexter. He took one look at her and immediately noticed
something was off. His gaze darkened.
"Where were you? What happened?"
Angela lowered her voice. "It doesn't feel right to stay here for too long. I'm leaving."
Before Dexter could say anything, Zayn and Mia had already caught up with them.
Zayn reached out and grabbed Angela's wrist. "Angela, you really helped us out just now. You can't just leave like
this. Dexter, take her inside—she hasn't even had dinner yet."
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHis enthusiasm matched Mia's. What were these two up to?
Angela sighed inwardly. She had no choice but to go along with it. After all, this wasn't her home, and she
couldn't be too impolite.
Inside the banquet hall, the engagement cake had just been brought out. Nearly two meters tall, it was designed
like a fairytale castle and was visually striking.
Angela quietly followed behind Dexter, trying to keep a low profile. But to her surprise, after the couple cut the
cake, the first slice was handed to her.
Mia and Zayn personally walked over, their faces etched with gratitude, as if they were looking at their savior.
"Angela, this first slice is for you. Thank you for what you did just now," Zayn said, his voice just loud enough for
everyone around them to hear.
Immediately, murmurs spread through the crowd. Everyone started speculating about what had happened. Why
were the engaged couple treating Angela with such deference?
Mia held the plate with both hands, respectfully offering it to Angela. "Angela, thank you for helping me."
Angela's unease deepened. She studied the young woman before her and finally caught the hint she had been
missing.
Mia didn't cfrom a powerful background-she was looking for allies.
Everyone else here either dismissed her, bullied her, or outright scorned her, believing she wasn't good enough
for Zayn. So, she had set her sights on Angela, thinking they were in the sboat and would have things in
common.
Plus, Angela had few friends in this social circle. And since Zayn was one of Dexter's closest friends, Mia must
have thought it would be
easier to win her over than everyone
else.
Angela's expression cooled slightly. She smiled, but there was an unmistakable distance in her gaze.
"It was nothing. Ms. Spencer, you really don't need to thank me."
She took a quiet step back, putting space between them-making her stance clear.
Mia froze immediately. A trace of disbelief was obvious on her face.
Zayn looked equally uncomfortable. He turned to Dexter for help, but the latter remained silent, though there
was a flicker of confusion in his eyes.
Seeing no way forward, Mia and Zayn turned to hand out cake to the other guests.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAngela stood in place, watching the lively scene, her mind still occupied with what had just happened.
Dexter suddenly said, "Don't overthink it. No one can force you to do something you don't want to."
Angela glanced at him, a little surprised at how direct he was.
"Zayn is your friend. Don't you want to help him?" she asked.
Dexter looked over at the couple, who were now surrounded by well-wishers. In a flat tone, he
replied, "The Jewells don't approve
of this engagement. Even if | supported Zayn and Mia, it wouldn't change anything."
