Chapter 269 | Don't Need Your Charity
‘Cormac?’ Hearing this name, Rowena felt a mix of emotions, but she was definitely excited.
"Not just a common name; | am indeed the friend of the friend you mentioned," Rowena explained. "Really?"
Stellan was still surprised even after getting confirmation.
"Yes, | am Cormac's ex-girlfriend," Rowena said.
"So it's true. You're now in a relationship with Richard/ | wanted to ask but didn't dare to," said Stellan.
Rowena slightly pressed her lips, then looked at Alaric and asked, "Mr. Knight, you said you're still friends with
Cormac, right?" "Of course," Alaric replied.
Hearing this, Rowena felt a bit relieved. It was good to know that Cormac and Alaric hadn't fallen out.
‘Since they're still friends, why didn't Alaric help Cormac? Why is Cormac living in such poverty now?' Rowena
wondered.
"I see him living so poorly now, and when | met you both, neither of you mentioned each other. | thought you
had a falling out," Rowena said pointedly.
"What do you mean? You've seen him?" Alaric was pleasantly surprised. "Cormac is still in Arizona? Where is he?"
Seeing Alaric's reaction, Rowena was surprised. "Mr. Knight, you don't know where he is?"
"Since the Nash family incident, he's been missing. I've looked everywhere but to no avail. Where is he?"
"I see." Rowena understood and answered truthfully, "The first t| met him was on the day of the free
admission at the amusement park. He was with a girl about fourteen or fifteen years old." "A girl about fourteen
or fifteen?" Stellan was very surprised. She exchanged a bewildered look with Alaric, curious about who the girl
was.

"I really don't know." Rowena thought momentarily and said, "But Richard seems to know where he works. His
residence shouldn't be hard to find. How about I call and ask..."
"No need," Alaric interrupted her. He had been thinking about Aurora, and suddenly it clicked. "I think | already
know. Stellan, you and Miss Blaire enjoy your meal. I'm going to find him." With that, Alaric strode out. He felt so
foolish for not realizing it sooner.
He thought Cormac would definitely investigate Orion's car accident. Aurora must be a relative of the other
victim, Matthew. How could he have been so slow to realize?
Cormac had been unloading goods until it was dark. Since the shipment was unexpected, he was paid on the
spot.
Cormac specifically bought Aurora her favorite meat. As he opened the door, he couldn't help but say, "Aurora, |
bought your favorite food. Tonight you can..." Before he could finish, he saw Alaric standing in the room, and he
froze.
"Uncle, he's here to see you. He's been waiting for a long time," Aurora quickly said.
It was both surprising and not surprising for Cormac that Alaric had found him.
"Aurora, go eat in your room." Cormac handed her the food he had bought. Aurora took it and obediently went to
her bedroom, closing the door behind her.
After Aurora went inside, the small living room was left with just Cormac and Alaric.
Seeing the condition of the place, Alaric felt a pang of sadness. Cormac, who used to live in luxury, now had to
live in such a small space.
"It's a small place; I'm afraid there's no place for you to sit," Cormac said first.
"Cormac, | know you have resentment towards me. Feel free to vent it out; don't keep it bottled up," Alaric said.
"I don't resent you," Cormac immediately said. "What could I resent you for? My mother's illness was a natural
disaster, my sister's car accident was also a natural disaster, and Griffon got what he deserved. None of this is
your fault. | have nothing to resent."
Cormac's words left Alaric momentarily speechless. He knew Cormac had emotions to vent and wanted to let
him do so.
"Mr. Knight, this place is quite modest; it's not the best fit for you. We're about to eat, so please leave," Cormac
started to usher him out.
Alaric felt indescribable pain at Cormac's attitude, but he persisted, "Cormac, since I've cto find you, | won't
leave easily. | know the Nash family incident hit you hard, and I'm truly sorry for the situation it caused." Alaric
continued, "As for what you said before, that | never treated our friendship equally, I'm even more sorry. But |
swear, | never saw you as anything less than a friend. We grew up together; you're my only friend."
"Alaric, isn't it pointless to say this now?" Cormac interrupted him.
"I'm sorry." Alaric continued, "But every word | say is sincere. | know you don't want to seeright now, but |
have to say what's on my mind."
"Cormac, honestly, | thought you would leave Arizona. Maybe you stayed because of that girl, or maybe for other
reasons. You chose to stay in this familiar city but didn't want to run into us," Alaric uttered. "So you went to a
remote dock to do hard labor. Don't deny it; | know that's what you were thinking. But you're still young,
educated, and capable. Are you really willing to live like this for the rest of your life?" Alaric said. "How I live my
life is none of your business. | said we're about to eat, so please leave!" Cormac now wanted to push Alaric out
the door.

after the amusement park project to get treatment, but now | have to acquire a jewelry company.
If I succeed, the Vale family will hold a grudge and won't let it go. If | fail, it will be bad for the company's
development. | must admit, stopping work now is a terrible time, but my health can't wait.
| don't have many people | can trust. | really need your help, Cormac. Try to start over and stand up again. Can
you?"
Hearing this, Cormac laughed. He found it incredibly funny and then looked at Alaric and asked, "Charity? I'm a
doctor, and you wantto help you with the company. How can | help you?"
"Alaric, you really don't need to feel any guilt towards me. | said | don't blyou. | just realized we can't be
friends anymore. | never thought of taking revenge on you, nor do | envy you."
Cormac continued, "I just want to stay far away from you. Can you letgo? Yes, I'm living in this damp and
shabby place now. The only place | can sleep is this broken sofa. You think my life is terrible, and because of your
guilt, you feel even more uneasy."
"You think you can help me, givinga mansion and a luxury car. You think if my material life improves, you'll
feel better. Right? Are you really doing this for me, or just to make yourself feel better?" Cormac retorted.
