Chapter 428 Who Could Have Called Him?
"I mean it, I'm not messin’ with you," Alaric said, dead serious. "Harry, you've got this gift, so why not use it? |
wanna know about Tommy's past and all that jazz. If you can dig it up for me, I'd owe you big time." Harry was
hesitant. "Dad, are you for real?" Alaric's face was all business, but was this even legit?
"Dad, isn't this like, illegal? We can't do this," Elisa said, all worried.
"This ain't illegal; we're just serving sjustice. We're nabbing the bad guys, just using a different playbook,"
Alaric tried to convince them. "We're the good guys here, just with a twist." The kids exchanged uneasy glances,
feeling their moral compass spin.
'You grown-ups are so good at twisting things, always double-talking,' Harry said, still uneasy. "Dad, you're not
gonna makedo this and then throwunder the bus, right?"
"Con, I'm not that heartless. You're my kid," Alaric pressed. "So, you in or not? Your mom's almost done with
her bath."
"Seems legit," Elisa said, still unsure.
"Yeah, second it. Just do it, since Dad said so," Caspian chimed in.
"Alright, I'll be the hero, busting bad guys and all. I'll start tomorrow night," Harry decided.
"Fine, but don't let it mess with your schoolwork, and keep it on the down-low from your mom. And seriously,
don't push it. You're still kids, even if you're smart. Leave the heavy lifting to us adults, got it?" Alaric advised.
"Got it, Dad. We'll run everything by you first, no solo missions," Caspian said, looking down.

too!" Elisa quickly said.
Alaric nodded. "Alright, it's late. Hit the sack."
"Okay." The kids obediently left the study, leaving Alaric alone. He turned back to the surveillance footage on his
computer.
With his phone confiscated by Stellan, he had no clue how he'd survive the next four months. Harry had rigged
up the surveillance at Far East International, which was a lifesaver.
Even if he couldn't track Ambrose and Tommy 24/7, he could still keep tabs on their moves at Far East
International. Perfect.
With Tommy gone from Far East International, Alaric shut down the computer and left the study.
Stellan had just finished her bath. They headed to the bedroom together. Once in bed, Alaric asked, "Galatea, did
you tweak my treatment schedule?"
"Yeah, but no matter how | work on it, it's not as good as before," Stellan said. "With the new schedule, you need
another shot the day after tomorrow. The gap's too short, and the side effects will be rough." Alaric tried to
soothe her, "I'm good today. A shot the day after tomorrow is fine. It used to be every three or four days, right?"
Stellan looked worried. "That was before. After that bad relapse, do you know how weak you are now? Even once
a week is pushing it, let alone every three or four days."
"| get it, it'll suck the day after tomorrow, but after that, it'll be smooth sailing with once a week. No biggie,"
Alaric said, planting a kiss on her cheek. "Thanks, babe." "You're the one going through it," Stellan said softly,
snuggling into his arms.
Alaric shrugged. "I'm a tough guy; | can handle it. Let's crash."
Stellan nodded and whispered, "Good night, honey."
Alaric wrapped his arm around her waist. "Good night, babe."
They drifted off, tangled up in each other, feeling all warm and cozy. It was one of those perfect nights.
The next day, they got back to their routines. Cormac hit up the authority again, but still no luck.
Cormac scowled. "If they don't givean answer by this afternoon, I'm going back tomorrow."
Stellan had made a promise, and tomorrow was the deadline. If they couldn't pull it off, the higher-ups would
definitely be pissed.
"Thanks, Cormac. Alaric's got another treatment tomorrow, so I'm really swamped," Stellan said apologetically.
Cormac was taken aback. "Another shot tomorrow? Didn't he just have one?"
"Yeah, he did. The plan was for next week, but Alaric wanted to change it up. Maybe he's still stressing about
Josep?" Stellan explained. Cormac thought, ‘Messing with his treatment schedule? He must be really worried
about Josep and Tommy, but isn't this bad for him?' "Can he handle another shot so soon?" Cormac asked.
"Alaric's stubborn; | don't have a choice," Stellan said, feeling torn but helpless.
"Those side effects are brutal. Once he's fully cured, we can all breathe easy," Cormac said.
"This tit'll work. Just four more months, and | hope they fly by," Stellan said firmly.
Just then, a phone rang. Stellan realized it was Alaric's.
She pulled Alaric's phone from her bag. The screen showed an unknown number. Not wanting to miss something

"Hello, this is my husband's phone. He's busy, so I'm answering for him," Stellan said.
But there was no reply, and the call was cut off, leaving Stellan puzzled. She shrugged it off.
"You took Alaric's phone?" Cormac asked.
"Yeah, he's been talking to Ambrose a lot. Ambrose knows Alaric can't handle stress during treatment but still
tries to rile him up. So I took his phone to give him speace," Stellan explained. Cormac chuckled. "It's rare
for him to let you take his phone and chill."
Stellan gave a wry smile. "What else could he do? He's the rock of our family. His health isn't just his own."
"True that." Cormac smiled. "Alright, Galatea, you get back to it. I'll head out. I'll make another trip tomorrow."
"Thanks, Cormac." Stellan watched him leave, then picked up Alaric's phone again, eyeing the missed call. "Who
was that? Why hang up as soon as they heard my voice?"
