Chapter 49 This Man Struck Fear in Galatea
By afternoon, the medicated IV drip administered by the doctor had eased Galatea's discomfort, a relief
compared to how she had felt upon waking. Confined to her bed, Galatea had no choice but to rest with her eyes
closed, only opening them when she heard footsteps outside her hospital room. Expecting Alaric, Galatea was
dismayed to see the Nash couple enter instead. In truth, they were the last people she wanted to encounter.
Despite her reluctance, she greeted them as they cto visit her.
"Just lay still, honey, don't try to move," Mrs. Ravenna hurriedly advised, placing sfruit on the bedside table.
"| just heard about the accident. How on earth did it happen? Are you hurt badly?" "I'll be okay," Galatea
responded slowly. "I just need stto recover."
"That's a relief. You had us worried sick," Mrs. Ravenna said. "If you need anything during your hospital stay, just
letknow."
"Thank you."
No sooner had Galatea expressed her gratitude than Mrs. Ravenna's cell phone rang, an unexpected call from
Cormac. Worried that Griffon might get upset, she quickly excused herself, "Excuse me. | need to take this call
outside."
With that, Mrs. Ravenna left the room in haste, leaving Galatea alone with Griffon, and the atmosphere
immediately shifted.
"Where's Alaric?" Griffon glanced around the room with his brow furrowed. "He should be here with you during
your hospital stay." "He had to step out for a bit."
Galatea knew of Griffon's displeasure with her from a previous incident and felt his visit was more obligatory
than sincere.
"Thanks for your concern. | appreciate you taking the tto visit despite your busy schedule," she said with
little energy.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"You're Alaric's fiancée. It's only right | come," Griffon remarked curtly, surveying her condition with a shake of
his head. "Looks like a bad one. How did this accident happen? You need to be more careful."
His tone and look as he spoke that last sentence sent a chill down Galatea's spine.
"Has Alaric been around during your hospital stay?" Griffon asked with a dissatisfied smirk. "I've known the kid
since he was a boy. He was always independent-minded. Ideally, he would have just followed the plan, studied
diligently, and taken over the family business, but no-he had to join the military.
"How old was he then? An officer took a liking to him, and off he went to the service without a second thought.
You could say he practically grew up in the army, studying while enduring daily training, but he persisted."
"When Alaric was in his teens, his father passed away, presenting him with two choices; return hfor the
funeral or embark on his first mission with the military. He resolutely chose the latter.
"After his father's death, the responsibility of the large family business fell on his mother's shoulders. On
numerous occasions, she begged him to cback and help manage the company, but he stubbornly refused,
pushing his mother to beca titan in the business world.
"Then there was our very own Orion, who adored him from childhood. When he enlisted, she faithfully waited for
him. When he got injured, she nursed and stayed by his side, ignoring the advances of many men, living solely in
the hope of becoming his wife for over two decades.
"But Alaric seemed utterly unmoved. It appears as though Alaric was the sort of person who could abandon
everything for his convictions. | often wondered, how could someone whose life revolved only around his
ambitions possibly fall in love with any woman?
"I was proven wrong. Not only did he fall in love, but he was also incredibly caring as if he had beca
different person. Galatea, | truly admire you. How did you manage to win him over?"
Every word Griffon had just spoken was laced with malice, filling Galatea with revulsion as she could sense the
hatred, clearly.
"I don't know," she said.
'Alaric is in love with her? Impossible."
'He just plainly despises her."
"Galatea, it's your skill that made him fall for you, and | wish you the best. But remember, a conquest built on
lies won't last," said Griffon.
With that, Griffon lightly tapped the back of her hand where the IV needle was inserted, prompting Galatea to
reflexively pull away.
"Follow the doctor's orders and get well soon. I'll cto see you again in a few days," he said as he stood up,
looking down at her condescendingly.
In those brief seconds, an overwhelming sense of oppression lingered.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Ravenna stepped out into the yard to answer Cormac's call, "Hey, Cormac."
"Mom, are you free? Cout to dinner withtonight, and Caspian too. It's not often you guys get to meet,
and this could be a good chance to bond."
It was the weekend, and Harry was nagging Cormac to take him out. So, Cormac thought of inviting Mrs.
Ravenna, too.
"Not today. I'm at the hospital right now. You go out with Caspian," she replied.
"At the hospital?" Cormac's concern showed in his voice. "What happened? Are you feeling all right?"
"No, it's Galatea. She was in a car accident. Your father insisted we cto see her."
"To see Galatea?" Cormac was puzzled. "Why would you go if she's been in an accident? Besides, given her
condition, it's probably not the best tfor visitors... after all." "Bang!"
At the sound, Cormac quickly glanced over at Harry and saw the toys he had cradled in his palms scattered on
the floor - the toys he had planned to bring along. "All right, got to go now Mom."
Cormac had been extra careful to keep the kid in the dark, but somehow, the call had let the cat out of the bag.
"What did you just say?" Harry, shocked upon hearing about Galatea's accident, blurted out, "You said Mom got
into a car accident?"
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"When did | say she was in an accident?" Cormac feigned ignorance immediately, "You must have
misunderstood."
"I did not get it wrong. You just said she was in an accident." Harry's eyes instantly brimmed with urgency,
"Which hospital? Takethere, quick!"
Seeing he couldn't keep it a secret anymore, Cormac had no choice but to take him to the hospital.
Meanwhile, before nightfall, Alaric had already rushed back to the hospital. Stepping into the room adorned with
fruit and flowers, he asked the nurse, "Who's been here?"
"It seems like someone from the Nash family. | heard Miss Galatea call out to a Griffon and Ravenna."
Alaric gestured for the nurse to leave before asking, "The Nash family visited?"
Nodding, Galatea felt a shiver thinking about Griffon's words and his gaze.
Right then, Cormac, pushed by Harry's incessant urging, made haste to the hospital. Traffic was a nightmare, and
there wasn't a single parking space available.
As soon as the car stopped, Harry leaped out and took off before Cormac could say a word, leaving him to find a
spot.
Harry dashed up to Galatea's floor and paused at her door, about to enter, but then he heard Galatea talking
with Alaric. He stopped in his tracks, silently listening to their conversation through the door.
